The request was made when the Minister met the IRO director with officials from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) recently.

The delegation gave a favorable response to the request and said that the Japanese greatly appreciate Sri Lankans' technical ability and elderly care services.

In December 2021, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Japan's IRO and (SLBFE) to direct Sri Lankan youth to work in Japan as technical trainees.
