Thladuwa has said that the Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered the police to exhume the body to facilitate investigations by a five-member special forensic expert committee that probes the death of Schaffter.
The committee has requested the Colombo Magistrate’s Court to have the body of the businessman exhumed. A letter to that effect was submitted to the Court, last Thursday, and the judge said that a new date would be fixed for hearing an order issued to the CID in response to the committee’s request.
On February 27, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered the appointment of a five-member expert committee to probe Schaffter’s death. He called for a list of senior Judicial Medical Officers (JMOs) from the Director General of Health Services. The University Grants Commission was requested to do likewise.
Schaffter, 52, was found tied up in the driving seat of his car at the Borella Cemetery on 15 December, 2022. He died the following day while receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Colombo. The Homicide and Organized Crimes Division of the CID is conducting the investigations with the help of the Borella police.
