This weather pattern is expected to persist over the next few days.
According to the department, the prevailing showery conditions will continue to impact the South-Western part of the island.
“Showers or thundershowers are anticipated at various times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Provinces, as well as the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara,” it said.
Furthermore, showers or thundershowers are expected in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
The Met Department has also forecast strong winds, ranging from 40 to 50 kmph, particularly over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as the Northern, North-Central and North-Western Provinces.
