Sri Lanka’s cabinet of ministers have approved a proposal to amend an agreement between Sri Lanka and India so as to allocate 10 million US dollars out of a 15-million-dollar grant to provide solar power facilities to Buddhist temples and pirivena schools.
The original memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries was signed in March 2022 to implement projects under the grant to strengthen bilateral relations with respect to Buddhism.
In November 2022, India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Bagley met with Minister of Budhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Vidura Wickremenayake to expedite Buddhist projects that were funded with grants.
