The request was made by the Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera during a meeting held with World Bank team on Poverty and Equity Global Practice yesterday. Taking to Twitter the Minister noted that the World Bank team made a presentation titled ‘Assessing the distributional impact of electricity tariff increase in Sri Lanka’ about findings on the impact the electricity tariff increase has had on the public was presented yesterday.
Against this backdrop, Minister Wijesekera subsequently requested the World Bank’s assistance to conduct a full assessment of the tariff structure and the impact it has had on poor and vulnerable groups.
