Ship Repairs
Conveniently located within the port of Colombo, Colombo Dockyard has the ability to conduct both dry dock and afloat repairs. We operate four graving dry docks with a maximum capacity of 125,000 DWT and extensive repair berth facilities. Routine dry docking repairs, major layup repairs, collision damages, conversions and retrofits are professionally expedited. We also have extensive experience in machinery, piping, steel, electricals and electronics.
Colombo Dockyard Completes First Special Survey & Major Accommodation Modification of Pacific Jasper from Eastern Pacific Shipping – Singapore
Colombo Dockyard PLC recently completed a major accommodation refurbishment in parallel with the first special survey docking for Pacific Jasper, a chemical product tanker owned by Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) – Singapore. The vessel was built in 2019 by Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd which is the majority shareholder of Colombo Dockyard.
At present ship owners and managers face a significant challenge with crew changes. To address this, they not only focus on offering competitive pay but also prioritize providing comfortable accommodations for the crew. This approach aims to improve overall job satisfaction and retain skilled workers.
EPS, placing a strong emphasis on the well-being, comfort, and overall experience of its crew, tasked Colombo Dockyard with an extensive overhaul of key areas within the vessel. The refurbishment included significant upgrades to the mess room, lounge area, ship office, galley, and hospital areas.
The customized accommodation upgrade was carried out in parallel with drydocking repairs and installations. Despite the complexity and scope of the work involved, Colombo Dockyard was able to deliver the project on time.
All the required custom beds, sofas, paneling, and roofing were crafted and managed to meet the vessel’s specific needs such as colour, size, design and material by the shipyard’s in-house carpentry workshops.
Colombo Dockyard has proven the capability of accommodation outfitting work with the track record of high-quality shipbuilding projects for European, Japanese and Singaporean clients.
Pacific Jasper also underwent Propeller Shroud Vain, Rudder Bulb and HAVF (Hub Vortex Absorbed Fins) installations which are used to reduce the energy consumption highlighting the environment and energy consciousness of EPS. Yard installed Flow Meter Systems in Engine Rooms and CCTV system across the ship.
Special appreciation is due to Mr. P.D.A. Ranpath, Senior Engineer – Accommodation Outfitting, and his dedicated team for pre-planning of the activities and procuring and arranging the required equipment, materials, furniture etc. led to the success of the project which has demonstrated Colombo Dockyard’s commitment to embracing and overcoming challenges. Special appreciation goes to Mr. Ashish Gai and Mr. Dheer Singh from EPS for their continuous support since the very beginning to the successful project closure.
With this project, Colombo Dockyard once again proved its standing as a leading player in the global ship repair industry, known for delivering quality and efficiency. The successful collaboration between EPS and Colombo Dockyard stands as a shining example of how effective teamwork can achieve extraordinary results.

Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) Makes History by Achieving Three Significant Milestones on the Same Day
Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) made history on June 28, 2024, by achieving three important milestones in shipbuilding on the same day, in the construction of 5000DWT Eco Bulk Carriers for Misje Eco Bulk AS Norway. On this historic day, CDPLC laid the keel marking the commencement of construction of the 8th vessel, launched the 6th vessel, and delivered the 5th vessel of the Eco Bulker series, demonstrating its resilience and commitment to excellence despite economic and market challenges.
The keel laying ceremony of the 8th vessel “Misje Lily” (Yard No. NCO260), launching of the 6th vessel “Misje Lotus” (Yard No. NCO255), and delivery of the 5th vessel “Misje Rose” (Yard No. NCO254) were celebrated in the presence of owner Mr. Roadd Misje, CFO Ms. Alina Printseva, Site Manager Mr. Thusitha Herath, and Site Superintendents Mr. Venura Wanasinghe and Mr. Prince Dharmaranjan.
Representatives from DNV comprised of the Country Manager Mr. Saman A. Kumarasinghe and Surveyor Mr. Gishan Dias. From CDPLC, the event was attended by MD/CEO Mr. Thimira Godakumbura, Director Mr. J. Furukawa, Technical Advisor/Alternate Director Mr. S. Nozaki, and other senior management and staff.
The 89.95-meter DNV-classed Eco Bulk Carriers are designed by Wartsila Norway, with detailed design work executed by CDPLC’s in-house team. These vessels feature an Energy Storage Battery System (ESS) for electric hybrid propulsion, supplementing the conventional diesel propulsion, showcasing CDPLC’s commitment to innovative and sustainable maritime solutions. CDPLC’s ability to reach these significant milestones is a testament to its strong global reputation for delivering high-quality vessels and its strategic adaptability to evolving market demands.
Despite the economic downturns, volatile markets, CDPLC has continued to progress, maintaining its position as a strong competitor in the shipbuilding industry. With the country’s financial position turning healthier and with the commitment of our management team and our hardworking employees, we are optimistic that we can successfully continue this growth momentum into the future.

Colombo Dockyard builds underwater restaurant structure for Aanugandu Falhu Island Resort, Maldives
The underwater restaurant structure at Colombo Dockyard premises prior to being towed to Maldives
Colombo Dockyard PLC has successfully completed the contract for the design, supply of materials, fabrication, towing and providing installation guidance of an Underwater Restaurant Structure (UWRS) for Aanugandu Falhu Island in the Republic of Maldives.
Amidst an extremely difficult period in the country caused by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, CDPLC managed to complete the 440T steel structure within just seven months including the design and successfully dispatched the UWRS to Maldives on 18 February. The UWRS reached Maldives on 22 February. The contract was awarded in April 2021.
CDPLC will guide the client’s team to safely submerge this structure and place on the seabed of Lagoon 17, Aanugandu Island.
The client expects this to be a major tourist attraction for their newly developed resort. Once commissioned and put into operation, this will be the largest underwater restaurant in Maldives with a seating capacity of 48 persons with viewing gallery to all guests simultaneously.
The concept design originated from the client which was converted into an engineering marvel with the design developed by AKDA Engineers Lanka Ltd., headed by A.K. Diyabalanage and Colombo Dockyard design team carried out the detail and production design.
The specifications included length: 32.78m; breath: 18m; restaurant depth: 4.5m below Mean Sea Level and seating capacity: 48.
This is the second such project undertaken by Colombo Dockyard. It handled the first-ever Underwater Restaurant Structure (UWRS) project in 2018 to the Uthuru Maafaru Islands of Maldives. Proven capability of CDPLC has allowed this new client to place its confidence on CDPLC to build another UWRS for its hotel chain ‘Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts’ in Maldives. This underwater restaurant will add yet another feather to the portfolio of luxury resorts with exotic underwater dining experience of Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts.
CDPLC is the pioneering shipbuilding, ship repairing and heavy engineering facility in the country and operates in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Company Ltd. of Japan with Sri Lankan Government institutions having a shareholding of 35%.
